Magnelab’s MGS-1800 is a 3 phase 4-20 mA Rogowski Coil kit. Each phase handles up to 5000A and outputs a corresponding 4-20 mA signal.
The 4-20 mA Rogowski coil kit comes with three 18-inch long Rogowski coils (~6 inch diameter) and the corresponding integrator unit. The MGS-1800 is powered from the 4-20 mA DC loop circuit, and in most cases a loop voltage of 8 VDC is sufficient to power the device. However, if you are using a shunt in the current loop to generate a detectable voltage (e.g. 250 Ohm), you must take the voltage drop across the shunt into account. Of course you may also provide additional voltage to the 4-20 mA DC loop if necessary.
This 4-20 mA Rogowski coil is 1% accurate, making it a great choice for control applications.
As you’d expect with a 4-20 mA device, the unit outputs 4 mA DC current when no AC current is detected on the primary, and it outputs 20 mA when the full rated current is detected.
The integrator unit on the coil has an LED that lights up when the 4-20 mA circuit is complete and sufficiently powered. This makes it easy to ensure a fault condition doesn’t exist and helps you know that the unit is working properly.
